The chronicle
From the Bronze Age to the present day
The Ansitz Mühlen in Pfalzen, today's Baumannhof, played its part in the history of the Puster Valley for three quarters of a millennium. These walls remember.

Before the chronicle
Ceramic finds on the Baumannbühel, a striking spur above the Mühlbachgraben, attest to settlement here as early as the Bronze Age, millennia before the first written word.
- 1248
The Nobles of Mühlen
First mention: Otto III, Lord of Mühlen, of a servant family of the Schönecks. The palace stood below Schöneck Castle, and the Baumannhof farmed for the lord of the castle. In 1351, Philipp "Lipp" von Mühlen, judge of Schöneck, began assembling the estate.

The Mörl of Mühlen
Through marriage the estate passed to the Mörl family: district judges, councillors at the court of the Counts of Gorizia, members of the Tyrolean parliament. The brothers Michael and Georg signed the ownership contract of 1507; the family held Mühlen until the 18th century.
- 2009 – 2024
The Schifferegger restoration
In family hands for four generations. Over fifteen years, the residence and farmstead were restored under the strict requirements of the provincial heritage authority and carefully modernized, then opened to guests.

Four Churches Trail
The classic walk of the Pfalzen plateau passes right by the Baumannhof — you set off literally at the garden gate. Sunny meadow and forest paths lead from church to church: St. Cyriak in Pfalzen, St. Valentin in Greinwalden — a jewel of Puster Valley late Gothic —, St. Nikolaus in Issing and St. Johannes in Hasenried. In between, the views keep opening up across the Puster Valley to the Dolomites, and at the Issinger Weiher the loop pairs perfectly with a swim or a stop for lunch.

Honigberg Trail
The loop starts just north of the house. Follow the signs toward the Bärentaler Alm for the first 10 minutes, then a small path branches off to the right onto the Honigbergweg. The themed trail crosses the sunny slope that has always given Pfalzen its exceptionally rich honey: past hazelnut avenues, the Brunnenkapelle chapel with its reputedly healing spring water, and larch benches with Dolomite views.

Bärentaler Alm & Bärentaler Spitze
The big tour for sure-footed hikers — either straight from the house: north along the Sonnenstraße and steadily uphill through meadows and forest to the idyllically set Bärentaler Alm (1,847 m), then across open alpine terrain to the summit of the Bärentaler Spitze (2,450 m). To shorten the ascent, start at the Bärentalerhof above Pfalzen (parking available). The summit rewards you with a grand panorama: the Zillertal Alps to the north and, to the south, the Dolomites laid out at your feet as if on a silver platter. Easier option from either start: hike just to the alp — worth every step on its own.

Breakfast under the vaults
From mid-June to the end of August we serve breakfast; during that time it is included in the price.
Breakfast is on the sun terrace, or in the Labe when the weather turns cooler, the vaulted entrance hall with uncovered remnants of historic wall paintings. On the buffet table there are organic products from our own farm and from the region.
Coffee comes fresh from the espresso machine, prepared the way you like it, with oat milk too if you prefer.

"We were blown away by this apartment. The communication leading up to our stay was helpful, and the property itself is so charming! It is a family-run operation, and they took so much care when renovating the building. It has retained much charm from its historical past, and has been retrofitted so creatively!! It had everything we were looking for and more. The grounds have animals (kittens and cows!) and the balcony overlooked beautiful gardens. We only stayed two nights but wished we were there longer!"
